HTC HD2 Gets Mango Bliss – SD Card And All!

HTC HD2 Gets Mango Bliss – SD Card And All!

I had an article published yesterday night for a couple of hours, which due to the magic of Word Press, ended up being completely blank. This article was a plea of help from devs to get someone to aid with a compatibility issue that was hindering Mango on the HD2. Apparently, there were modules in the HD2 governing the SD card that Mango did not recognize/like. Because of this, the card was not being seen by the Mango wielding device. As a result of having lost my article, I figured I would write it again this morning. However, as I was about to get started, I got a tip in my inbox from XDA member Warriorvibhu where he pointed me at the same thread I wrote about yesterday. Much to my surprise, it seems that the devs working on this (XDA member YukiXDA and XDA Recognized Developer xboxmod) finally tackled the SD card obstacle and were able to release XBmod-Yuki ROM, which is much more than simply a ROM. This fantastic piece of work includes a feature that will allow devs to update the ROM via installable packages, which would be of tremendous help to both devs and users. Just think of this as the WP7 equivalent of zip packages for Android.

Lastly, by getting your hands on this, you will get all the awesomeness of Mango on the HD2 with everything working, including the SD card. Make sure that you read the first couple of posts in the thread in order to avoid issues, and as always, please leave some feedback.

This thread is about two different things:

  • A rom for HD2 which is able to update like any other devices:
  • A concept which can be applied on all wp7 device ans shared by its community:

You can find more information in the original thread.

Script To Allow WiFi With Radio Disabled

Script To Allow WiFi With Radio Disabled

If you want to be able to disable the radio on your Droid Incredible whilst still allowing the use of WiFi without having to use airplane mode, XDA member CondemnedSoul has written a simple script to utilise the radio options command.

This is great for people who just upgraded and want to use their older device for an mp3 player with WiFi access. The XDA member wanted to make it to be run in init.d on startup but hadn’t successfully gotten it working and hence the script.

To run the script, you’ll need to download the script and place it somewhere on your SD card, download Script Manager from the Market.

For the full instructions, head on over to the forum thread.

Fine Volume Control, Adds A Dial To Volume Dialog

Fine Volume Control, Adds A Dial To Volume Dialog

XDA forum member richardop has just released a new Android application that enhances the standard media volume dialog by adding some new functions.

The on-screen media volume dial replaces the default media volume dialog with one that adds a turnable dial to adjust volume and an ability to change the volume level in smaller increments by using the earpiece speaker.

If you ever find that 1 bar of volume is too loud, Fine Volume Control will help solve this issue.

Features include:

  • A fancy volume dial (complete with glow) to use instead of repeatedly pressing the volume buttons.
  • A finer volume setting that effectively lets you go below 1 bar of volume by redirecting sound to the earpiece speaker when you drop below the threshold marked on the slider.
  • Mute and disable buttons
  • Dialog visual styles
For more information and link to the Market, head on over to the application thread1.

Challenge Your Friends With Four In a Row

Challenge Your Friends With Four In a Row

Remember when the only games available to young kids were of the analog variety? While some would argue that the advent of high tech gadgetry and gaming has yielded a generation with a heightened prevalence of attention disorders, I argue that those who never experienced the Sonics and Marios missed out on some of the best games of all time.

However, many kids still actually enjoy the classic non-digital games. Luckily for us, XDA forum member Goddchen has given a refreshing face-lift to the timeless classic Connect 4 by adding multiplayer capabilities. While not quite as aesthetically appealing as the other iteration of the game we covered back in June by XDA forum member mocelet2000, the element of multiplayer takes this timeless classic to a new level. In the words of the developer:

Do you think that playing four in a row (Connect 4) is boring when played alone?

Well this game is the answer! It provides REAL online multiplayer versus REAL opponents.

Continue on to the game thread to get started reliving the old classic in full digital, multiplayer-enabled glory
